Ajith Kumar on why sports is important

Motorsports is a passion that Tamil superstar Ajith has held on to for more than two decades. While his acting career took precedence for the longest, the actor is at a stage where he’s clearly prioritized both. Racing will get all his attention for six months of the year, he had said recently. Speaking to Gulf News on the sidelines of his most recent race in Dubai, Ajith said that motorsports and travel are what keeps him motivated, which is also why he insists that his children see the world and indulge in sports of any kind.

“When you travel, you meet people of different walks of life and it makes you experience different cultures. You learn to empathize with people. There is a famous quote that religion makes you hate people that you have never met before, which is so true. We tend to form opinions about people and countries, different races, before we have even met. It’s like being a frog in a well. When you travel, you realise how small you are and how small the world is,” said Ajith.

Ajith: One needs to be cautious with success

As for sports, the superstar firmly believes that it teaches one how to handle success and failure with grace and brings out a person’s real personality. “Failure teaches you more than success. When you go through adversities, we tend to be more careful about the decisions we take. It is when one is successful that one needs to be cautious. Success is like a wild horse; it will let anyone hop on to it, but if you can’t tame it, it will throw you off and wait for the next one to hop on,” said Ajith, adding that sports help one understand this better.
