Ajay Devgn was the only one we approached for Rudra: The Edge of Darkness: Producer Sameer Nair

It would seem impossible to persuade Ajay Devgn to invest in a series when he can do four films in the same amount of time. The misconception is busted by producer Sameer Nair of Applause Entertainment, who created Rudra: The Edge of Darkness an Indian remake of the acclaimed British series Luther.

Talking about the same, Nair told Mid-Day that the only person they approached was Ajay. The actor was well-versed in Luther's universe, and the figure is gloomy, melancholy, and has a smouldering aura about him. Nair shared that Ajay is the only one who can ace it. He also said that it was a major thing for Ajay to agree to perform any show on a streaming platform at all. The actor deserves a lot of credit for Rudra. Revealing an anecdote, the creator explained that on the first day of the shoot, everyone was summoned at 9 a.m. Ajay arrived at 8.30 a.m. and focused everyone's energies solely on the show.

The Disney+ Hotstar series, which dropped today, was reinvented in Mumbai and shot in real locations from July to December last year. It wasn't easy working with a superstar in a non-studio setting. When you add in the pandemic, it was an uphill battle, according to Nair.

The ace producer revealed that they were supposed to begin filming in October 2020. This was pushed back to January 2021 and then to April 2021. In July, they finally got started. The time spent waiting was used to improve the substance, as they had three drafts of dialogue. Nair went on to say that the final draft was spiced up by writer Jay Bansal. Together with Rajesh Mapuskar, director and director of photography, they storyboarded extensively. It's a show about introspection, revealed Nair, and he said that there are fewer flashes of flamboyance, yet it is still massy.
