Runway 34 also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh and Boman Irani.
Ajay Devgn in Runway 34
Ajay Devgn writes and directs Runway 34 a story about a pilot who had to make quick decisions in order to save himself and the flight he is manoeuvring. The movie was previously announced as MayDay but its title was changed to the current one soon after.
Devgn explained the rationale behind this title change to entertainment website Pinkvilla recently: "A lot of people didn’t understand the title MayDay. They equated it to Labour Day. The best alternative to MayDay was Runway 34 because the film is about why the captain chose Runway 34, which is the wrong runway to land. There is a mystery to Runway number 34 in the film. Now, I think this is a more apt title."
In the movie, Devgn plays Captain Vikrant Khanna while Rakul Preet Singh plays his colleague, Captain Tanya. Amitabh Bachchan is seen as Narayan Vedant, who heads an inquiry about the fateful flight with 150 passengers led by these two pilots.
The trailer description had said that Runway 34, which is inspired by real events, will take the audience "on a turbulent journey with the lives of 150 passengers and crew hanging on a thread. A bombastic face-off ensues between the authorities and him."
Sandeep Kewlani has written the story and co-written the dialogues with Aamil Keyan Khan. Aakanksha Singh, Boman Irani, and YouTube personality Carry Minati also star in pivotal roles.
Runway 34 is Devgn's third directorial after the 2008 romantic drama U Me Aur Hum and the 2016 action movie Shivaay.
Runway 34 will release in theatres on April 29. It is co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Vikrant Sharma, Sandeep Harish Kewlani, Tarlok Singh Jethi, Hasnain Husaini and Jay Kanujia.
