The film, directed by debutant Jocky, will be in theatres on April 29
Debutant director B Thimmegowda, who is going with the screen name Jocky, is gearing up for the release of his film, Shokiwala. Produced by Crystal Paark Cinemas, the film, which has Krishna Ajai Rao and Sanjana Anand in the lead, was censored and ready for release since January this year, but the team had been waiting for an opportune time to bring it to theatres. They have now zeroed in on release date – April 29.
While this is a good two weeks after the most-anticipated Kannada film, KGF: Chapter 2, this is, as of now, the date set for the release of the Telugu biggie, Acharya, starring Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. There is another Kannada film, the late Sanchari Vijay’s Melobba Mayavi, which is also gearing up for an April 29 release.
Speaking to OTTplay earlier, after Shokiwala was censored with a clean U/A certificate, Jocky had told us more about the film. “This film is a romantic comedy, from the perspective of a rural guy, who wants to fall in love and then get married. But for some strange reason, no girl falls for him. How he goes about wooing the heroine, the daughter of the village head, whom he meets at a wedding, forms the crux of the story. In fact, the heroine is the village sweetheart, with many others also pining for her attention. But the hero picks up fights with these potential suitors, as he firmly believes she is his soulmate. We have presented this as an entertainer, with ample comedy.”
Shokiwala also stars Sharath Lohitashwa, Giri Shivanna, Tabla Nani, Aruna Balraj and Nagaraj Murthy, among others. Music is by Sridhar V Sambhram for songs written by Jayant Kaikini, Nagendra Prasad and Chethan Kumar.
