Antony Varghese and Arjun Ashokan’s Ajagajantharam that turned cinema halls into festival grounds will soon be streaming on an OTT platform. We have confirmed that the Tinu Pappachan directorial, which hit theatres last year, will release on Sony LIV.

The movie, which was scripted by Kichu Tellus and Vineeth Vishwam, has crossed 50 days in theatres already and is declared a superhit, according to film trade analysts. The film is set against the backdrop of a temple festival. Things, however, descend into chaos after a team of mahouts lock horns with the village youths.

After the success of the film in theatres, Tinu had told OTTplay, “It gives me immense joy to watch the audience celebrate watching our movie in cinema halls. They are applauding and dancing. As far as I understand, cinema is a visual language and it’s enjoyed and experienced the best when it’s watched in theatres with others.”

The movie, which also has Chemban Vinod, Lukman Avaran, Sudhi Koppa, Sabumon and Jaffer Idukki, was also lauded for its cinematography. The film was entirely shot before the pandemic.

Recently, Tinu put up a social media post thanking the audience for making the movie a huge success. “We had to face a lot of hurdles to bring the movie to the theatres and I can’t forget the reception that everyone has given it once it released,” said the filmmaker.

The movie marked the second collaboration between Tinu and Antony after the thriller Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. Incidentally, Lijo Jose Pellissery was set to helm Ajagajantharam and had even bought the rights for the movie. However, he decided to drop the movie as Jallikattu also centred on an animal.

Ajagajantharam is currently streaming on Sony LIV. It will be the second Malayalam release on the platform after the anthology Freedom Fight, which dropped on February 11.
