Recently, Rajshree Ojha looked back at her debut film and the changing dynamics in terms of audience and reception as Sonam Kapoor's film turned 14.
Rajshree Ojha’s Aisha has completed 14 years since its release, and the director feels like a proud parent of her 2010 venture. The romantic comedy film was anchored by an ensemble cast, including Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Ira Dubey, Cyrus Sahukar, Amrita Puri, Anand Tiwari, Arunoday Singh, and Lisa Haydon. Recently, in an interview, Rajshree Ojha looked back at her debut film and the changing dynamics in terms of audience and reception. She also cited that the film could've been received differently if it had been released now, while calling it ‘ahead of its time.’
Filmmaker Rajshree Ojha, who rose to fame with her debut film Aisha, recently shared with Zoom how the movie created an impact on her life. She reminisced about how fans continued to express love in the film while also reflecting on the changing mindset that made Aisha more acceptable in today’s era. Emphasising its reception back then, Ojha told the news portal, “I think it was way ahead of its time, going back to how it was received. I think if it had been released now, it would have received more love and buzz.”
Ojha’s Bollywood adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma featured a fascinating ensemble cast with Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Lisa Haydon, and many others. Despite its stellar cast and screenplay, the movie missed making it big as it secured the status of a semi-hit against its budget. Reflecting on its discrete success and cult following, the filmmaker expressed gratitude over the love it received, which made it evergreen.

Set in the elite society of Delhi, Aisha revolves around the titular character, who calls her the best suitor while playing cupid among her friends. This unique tale of love, friendship, and class distinction gained cult status over time. It has a Barbie-like feel; it kind of has a timeliness attached to it, Rajshree added while expressing pride in her venture.
