Leo has set a new benchmark for Tamil movies in Kerala. And it won't be wrong to say that the success of all future Tamil blockbusters in the state will be measured against the success of Leo.
Thalapathy Vijay's latest movie Leo is all set to end its box office run on a fantastic note. The film exceeded expectations in terms of theatrical revenue by becoming 2023's biggest Tamil hit. Even as the OTT release date of Leo draws closer, it continues to break collection records.
In Kerala, Leo breached the Rs 60 crore mark at the box office and became the highest-grossing Tamil film ever there. The other top four Tamil movies that made record collections in Kerala were Jailer (Rs 57 crore), Vikram (Rs 40 crore), Ponniyin Selvan 1 (Rs 24 crore), and Bigil (Rs 19 crore).
However, Leo has failed to beat the six-year-old collection record of director SS Rajamouli's global hit Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which collected a whopping Rs 72 crore in Kerala alone in 2017. Kannada superstar Yash's sensational movie KGF: Chapter 2 holds second place with Rs 68 crore gross at the Kerala box office. Leo must settle for third place in Kerala's list of highest-grossing non-Malayalam movies.

Leo has set a new benchmark for Tamil movies in Kerala. And it won't be wrong to say that the success of all future Tamil blockbusters in the state will be measured against the success of Leo. Vijay clearly has an edge over the current crop of Tamil superstars in Kerala which is evident in the collections of Leo.
In the meantime, Leo is set to make its streaming debut this week. The movie's OTT release was delayed to maximize its box office gain at the box office.
Leo will start streaming on Netflix on November 24, marking the end of the film's glorious theatrical run. Leo so far is said to have collected more than Rs 612 crore from its worldwide ticket sales.
Leo is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
