Chidambaram's Jan.E.Man was lauded by many for its performances and the filmmaking style. Ahead of Manjummel Boys’ OTT release, here is why you should watch this dark comedy drama again.
Young filmmaker Chidambaram became incredibly popular following the release of his second directorial, Manjummel Boys, in February. Based on a true story, the critically acclaimed survival drama enjoyed widespread success in theatres in Kerala as well as other parts of the nation. On the other hand, the director's 2021 debut film, Jan.E.Man, had caught the interest of movie buffs much earlier.
As Manjummel Boys is gearing up for its OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar starting May 5, these are some of the reasons you should revisit Jan. E. Man, which is streaming on Sun NXT. You can also access the movie on OTTplay Premium.
The movie revolves around Joemon, a nurse from Canada, who chooses to visit his hometown of Kerala to celebrate his 30th birthday with his school pals. In the meantime, the sudden demise of the old man who lived in the neighbouring house where they chose to celebrate alters everything. Next, misunderstandings and personality conflicts constitute the main plot points of the movie.
This film's dark comedy takes centre stage, and the director does a masterful job of examining the happy and depressing moments of life. The movie features quirky, light-hearted moments when Joemon celebrates his birthday, but it also looks at the harsh realities of life when it comes to the Palathottathil house, which is grieving over the unexpected death of a loved one amid tumultuous relationships.
Many people praised the subtle performances of Basil Joseph as Joemon and Balu Varghese as Palathottathil Monichan after the movie's release. Balu has once again demonstrated his versatility, playing roles with ease that range from comedic to subtly serious. The movie also showcased Basil's talent for delivering comedy at its finest. Lal has also given a fantastic act in the role of Plathottathil Kochukunju, who is attempting to maintain order in the midst of chaos in relationships and other matters. In the movie, other young actors like Arjun Ashokan and Ganapathi S Poduval also put on impressive performances.
