The upcoming Malayalam movie, directed by Nikhil Premraj, has the Ajagajantharam actor playing a footballer
It’s not a secret that Ajagajantharam and Angamaly Diaries star Antony Varghese is a huge football fan. Ahead of Kerala Blasters’ first ISL final in six years, the actor posted a new poster of his upcoming film Aanaparambile World Cup, sharing an update about its release.
The movie, which is directed by debutant Nikhil Premraj, has Antony playing a footballer named Hashim, who is tasked with the job of coaching a group of youngsters for an U-12 tournament organised by a premier European football club.
Its makers had initially mulled releasing the movie in theatres last December but this was postponed due to Ajagajantharam, which also had Antony in the lead, running in cinema halls. The current update reveals that the film will now hit theatres in May.
The team had completed shooting the movie ahead of the pandemic and this also helped as it has sequences featuring large crowds. Apart from Antony, Aanaparambile World Cup also has Balu Varghese, Lukman Avaran, TG Ravi and Nishanth Sagar. Indian football legends IM Vijayan and Jo Paul Ancheri are also part of the film, which has music composed by Jakes Bejoy.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the film’s director Nikhil had told us that OTTs had shown interest in the film as it revolved around football. “However, we felt it would work better as a theatrical release to attract family audience,” he said.
Meanwhile, Antony is currently busy shooting for Laila in which he plays a college student. The campus romcom is directed by debutant Abhishek KS and three female leads. Antony’s next release though will be Jis Joy’s Innale Vare, which will also mark his first direct-to-OTT release. The movie is a thriller that also has Asif Ali, Nimisha Sajayan and Reba Monica John as part of the cast. Antony plays a technician in the film, based on Bobby and Sanjay’s story.
