As Kalki 2898 AD is all set to hit the screens on June 27, 2024, all eyes are on one man, and that is the director, Nag Ashwin. He has made only two films to date, and Kalki is his third film and the biggest Indian film to date. Ever since the makers, Vyjayanthi Movies, announced the film, everyone was eager to know what Nag Ashwin has in store for us after the super success of Mahanati, a period drama.
Well, the moment everyone knew that Prabhas would be seen as a superhero in Kalki 2898 AD, fans were over the moon, and cinema lovers were hailing Kalki 2898 AD as India's answer to big Hollywood films. Yevade Subramanyam is a 2015 coming-of-age drama written and directed by Nag Ashwin. Nani, Malavika Nair, Vijay Deverakonda, and Ritu Varma play lead roles in his film. Nag Ashwin showcases Nani as an ambitious man with no feelings towards others. How such a person goes on a journey to Doodh Kasi to scatter his friend's ashes and gets transformed through heartwarming emotions is the basic crux of the film.
Yevade Subramanyam was produced by Swapna Dutt and her sister and brought the likes of Vijay Deverakonda into the limelight. The class audience loved the film, making Nag Ashwin an overnight sensation. During the making of this film, Nag Ashwin also married Priyanka Dutt, one of the producers of the film.
After making his debut in the year 2015, Nag Ashwin took three long years to make his second film, Mahanati. The moment he announced the film, stating it is the biopic of the legendary Telugu actress Savitri, Nag Ashwin was trolled by industry insiders as to how come he would showcase the tragic past of a heroine who passed away due to alcoholism.
Nag Ashwin further shocked everyone when he roped in Keerthy Suresh, a new Tamil actress, for the role. But the way he narrated the film with a lot of emotions and sensational drama featuring Dulquer Salmaan impressed one and all. Nag Ashwin was hailed as the director to watch out for as Mahanati won so many national and international awards.
During the Covid lockdown, Nag Ashwin became a part of an anthology series and directed a short film titled Z Life. The futuristic drama had Sanjith Hegde and Shruthi Haasan in lead roles. It is about Vik, who assumes control over the world with his advanced innovation called X-Life, which has billions of clients. One fine day, his X Life gets hacked. Though the episode was trolled by and said it was too futuristic, one got an idea that Nag Ashwin has big plans in the days to come.
Since then, Nag Ashwin has not announced any film, and everyone was aware of the idea that he would make a big-budget futuristic action drama. Nag Ashwin shocked one and all when he roped in Prabhas to play Bhairava in this film. Since then, there was no stopping Ashwin as he went on to rope Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and many others in key roles.
Now, Kalki 2898 AD is one of the biggest films to release in Indian cinema. Nag Ashwin has created a new world for Kalki and set it in the year 2898 AD. The unique aspect is that Nag Ashwin has mixed Indian mythology in this futuristic action drama in a very interesting manner. Though the trailer has confused many, the buzz for the film is on another level in India and abroad. Kalki will break new records at the box office and let's see what Nag Ashwin has in store for us.
