Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran eagerly awaits the release of his highly anticipated movie, Aadujeevitham . The movie arrives at a pivotal moment for Malayalam cinema, as it breaks barriers across the country and ventures into new markets previously unexplored.

The Malayalam film industry is off to a stellar start with blockbusters like Manjummel Boys, Premalu, and Bramayugam. These films have redefined box office success, appealing to a broader audience base that hadn't previously experienced Malayalam cinema in theatres.

Prithviraj on Malayalam cinema's phenomenal rise

Prithviraj, however, isn't surprised by the growing popularity of Malayalam cinema, citing its exceptional body of work.

"All that is happening now is a natural course of a very envious evolution of our industry. We were always poised for this growth spurt and it's happening for multiple reasons. The most important of which is we are making good stuff. We are going through a phase where we are blessed with great filmmakers, great writers, really enterprising producers and of course, great acting and technical talents. They all are doing good work and that's the foundation of all this," Prithviraj told Film Companion.

Prithviraj also noted that the newfound popularity of Malayalam cinema has made filmmakers realize the importance of developing a robust distribution network outside Kerala to provide easier access to Malayalam movies.

"Could you have imagined, about five years ago, a Malayalam film would be distributed in Tamil Nady by Red Giant, Mythri in Andhra and Telangana, Hombale in Karnataka and Anil Thadani in the north? It took me just one phone call and they said, 'ya, sure." It is because they are also visionaries," he explained.

He also expressed gratitude to the pioneers and the newcomers in Malayalam cinema, whose work is pushing the limits and taking the industry to new heights in terms of both commercial and critical success.

Prithviraj is now busy promoting Aadujeevitham, which is titled The Goat Life in English. The film is a big-screen adaptation of the novel of the same name and is written and directed by Blessy.
