The film helmed by Kalyana Krishnan has opened to mixed reviews
A still from Agilan
Agilan, starring Jayam Ravi in titular role, hit the screens yesterday. The movie directed by Kalyana Krishna was supposed to be released in September last year, but the makers postponed their plans. Screen Scene has bankrolled the project which has Hareesh Peradi, Chirag Jani and Priya Bhavani Shankar among others essaying crucial characters in it.
The film has opened to mixed response among critics and the audience. Ravi's performance as a crooked ruffian is one of the few highlights of the movie which suffers from weak execution and unimpressive character designs.
Set against the backdrop of a sea port, its story revolves around a young ambitious man who strikes an illegal deal with an entrepreneur. This leaves the former's boss furious and he sets out to curtail his growth. Their conflict escalates when a sincere cop sets out to stop illegal activities happening in and around the port.
The movie has taken a below par opening, leaving many film buffs stunned. According to sources, Agilan has taken the fifth best opening in Tamil Nadu this year. Ajith's Thunivu, Vijay's Varisu, Dhanush's Vaathi and Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan are other projects that are still ahead of the Ravi-starrer in 2023 in terms of day one box office.
Cinephiles are eagerly looking forward to know if the film could perform will on weekends and bring on decent figures in the coming days. Agilan has surpassed the day one figures of other Tamil movies which were released yesterday, though.
Ravi's next outing is Ponniyin Selvan 2, which is hitting the screens on April 28. The actor has Anthony Bhagyaraj's Siren, Ahmed's Iraivan and Rajesh's JR 30 (tentative title) in his kitty.
