Turna Das will continue to play the lead.
Saurav Palodi has recently created a show, Kholam Kuchi, with Anindya Sengupta for Uribaba TV. His theatre group Ichheymoto has also restored their production Ghum Nei. Now they are gearing up to restore their other production, Captain Hurrah. In 2018, the group staged Mohit Chattoapdhyay’s Captain Hurrah with Turna Das as the lead Captain. After a series of shows, the production was stalled due to the pandemic. Now after more than two years, Captain Hurrah will be back on stage on September 4 with Turna leading the show. Earlier, the group also staged their popular play Ghum Nei.
In the original text, the lead is a male character that has been changed for the play. In an interview with Anandabazar online, Turna said, “State power or voice or dissent has no power and it cannot be identified as ‘sir’ or ‘madam’. It is an idea that weather makes or breaks dreams. Hence, this play goes beyond the white and black and turns into a surreal production.” Before this play, Tuna worked with Suman Mukhopadhyay in his Mephisto during the pandemic.
The play deals with a captain of a ship who is a dreamer. Along with the passengers, the captain embarks on a journey to find their dreamland. They have a map hidden in their heart.
After Kholam Kushi, Saurav is busy rehearsing Captain Hurrah. In an interview with Anandabazar, he said that he took the time to interpret the play from the original text. “We went through the script at least 25-30 times before finalising our script. In the play, there is no hard copy of the map for their destination. It is an idea. Maybe it is an idea of revolution. The captain is dreaming of a better world.”
