After Mayilsamy's death, an old speech of the late comedy icon Vivek has gone viral.
Popular comedy actor Mayilsamy passed away in Chennai in the early hours of Sunday after suffering a heart attack. His demise has caused a shock wave across Tamil Nadu. And his popularity seems to go beyond his work in movies. It seems he has left behind a rich legacy in philanthropy.
Following his death, an old speech of the late comedy icon Vivek has gone viral. In that speech, Vivek expressed his admiration for Mayilsamy and his willingness to perform charity regardless of his financial situation.
"Mayilsamy is a wonderful character. If I narrate everything that Mayilsamy has done to Bharathiraja sir for one hour, he will want to make a film about him. Because a man like him is living among us. We can't conclude whether he's gullible or a good man," Viviek said in his speech.
Vivek narrated an anecdote to demonstrate Mayilsamy's generosity when it comes to helping people in need. "With his hard-earned money, he bought a long gold chain with MGR dollar on it," Vivek said.
Mayilsamy was a die-hard follower of movie icon and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran. And Vivek noted that Mayilsamy strived all his life to live up to the ideals of MGR.
"When the tsunami hit Chennai, actor Vivek Oberoi came down here and was helping people in Devanampattinam. After learning about it, Mayilsamy became emotional. At that time, he didn't have money or movies. He was in poverty. He's like Shirdi Sai Baba, one day he will be a rich man, and on another day he will be a poor man. If he earns Rs 10,000, the next day he will give away everything to people in need," Vivek added.
Given that Mayilsamy didn't have money at the time, he donated his gold MGR dollar to help Oberoi's charity work. "Mayilsamy went to Devanampattinam, knocked on Vivke's door, and gave his MGR gold dollar to him. He said, 'you, help, super,' and left the place without saying anything else because he didn't know Hindi or English to talk to him," Vivke quipped.
Earlier, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan also noted in his condolence message that Mayilsamy will be "remembered for his helpful nature."
Mayilsamy is survived by his wife and son.
