Dulquer Salmaan is teaming up with director Selvamani Selvaraj and actor-producer Rana Daggubati, for the upcoming period drama film, Kaantha. The filming of the project is under progress.
Dulquer Salmaan is currently on a high with the extraordinary success of Lucky Baskhar. The actor, who has clearly established himself as a bankable pan-Indian star, is teaming up with filmmaker Selvamani Selvaraj for his next outing, Kaantha. The actor is not just playing the lead role in the film, but is also co-producing the project with the Telugu star, Rana Daggubati. Interestingly, the recent updates suggest that Dulquer Salmaan is playing a real-life superstar in the film.
For the uninitiated, Dulquer Salmaan has previously played the role of legendary superstar Gemini Ganesan in the acclaimed Nag Ashwin film, Maha Nati. As per the latest updates, the popular actor is now set to play yet another real-life superstar, in his upcoming film, Kaantha. The grapevine suggests that Dulquer Salmaan’s role in the Selvamani Selvaraj film is based on MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar aka MKT, the legendary carnatic singer-turned-actor, who was considered the first-ever superstar of Tamil cinema.
If the reports are to be believed, Kaantha revolves around early life, musical and movie careers, and the rise of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. The Selvamani Selvaraj directorial is also expected to delve into the infamous Lakshmi Kanthan murder case, that changed MKT’s life upside down. While Dulquer Salmaan is confirmed to play the role of Thyagaraja Bhagavathar in the film, the characters played by Rana Daggubati and Samuthirakani are still under wraps.
