Sanjay Dutt's popularity in South India has hit a new height following the monstrous success of KGF: Chapter 2.
It seems Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt is the new favourite of mainstream Tamil filmmakers. If the reports are to be believed, the 'Khal Nayak' star has been tapped to play the main villain in Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar's upcoming movie Vidaa Muyarchi. However, an official confirmation on the same is awaited.
The buzz is the filmmakers are also in talks with Arjun Das, who shot to fame with his terrific performance in director Lokesh Kangaraj's Kaithi, to play another antagonist role in the movie.

Sanjay Dutt's popularity in South Cinema after KGF 2
Sanjay Dutt's popularity in South India has hit a new height following the monstrous success of KGF: Chapter 2. Starring Yash in the lead role, the original Kannada movie was directed by Prashanth Neel. In the second part of the two-part gangster drama, Dutt played the main antagonist named Adheera.
Dutt's get-up in KGF 2 was inspired by the ancient Viking warriors and his sheer screen presence further elevated the movie to another level. Dutt showed once again why he makes a formidable villain, a key ingredient to make a commercial movie succeed.

And since the success of KGF 2, South cinema has been trying to capitalize on Dutt's charismatic yet menacing screen presence. He already has a few big-budget South Indian movies in the works. He will be seen in a key role in director Lokesh Kanagaraj's upcoming movie Leo.
According to reports, he has played the role of Thalapathy Vijay's father in Leo. And it seems while his character will have shades of grey, it's unlikely to be entirely an antagonistic role in Leo.
Dutt has also been roped in for an upcoming Kannada movie named KD. Written and directed by Prem, the project is in the pre-production.
The status of Vidaa Muyarchi
Vidaa Muyarchi is yet to go on the floors even months after it was officially announced. It's said that director Magizh Thirumeni took longer than expected to finish the project. The delay had led to several speculations, including Lyca Productions shelving the project.
However, in a recent event, Lyca confirmed that Vidaa Muyarchi is very much on the cards and will go into production soon.
