The movie, which is directed by Shaji Kailas, also marks the star’s return to ‘mass’ action genre
Prithviraj Sukumaran fans, who have been waiting for the actor to be part of a ‘mass’ film for almost a decade now, will be pleased to know that his upcoming film Kaduva is set to hit theatres soon.
Helmed by the master of ‘mass’ action entertainers, Shaji Kailas, the upcoming film will hit cinema halls on June 30 and also boasts a power-packed team featuring Jakes Bejoy as its composer, Jinu V Abraham as its scriptwriter and Vivek Oberoi, Samyuktha Menon, Arjun Ashokan and Rahul Madhav as part of its cast.
The film, which has Prithviraj playing a rubber plant based in the high-ranges of Kottayam, is set in the 90s and revolves around the titular character Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan who goes up against the police forces in the area.
In a recent Twitter Spaces session with Netflix South, Prithviraj said he had been rejecting ‘mass’ films in the past few years. But when Jinu approached him with the script, he liked it and also thought it was best if Shaji Kailas had directed. The filmmaker, whose last release was in 2017, heard the script and immediately came onboard in 2019.
The movie, however, took time to go on floors with the pandemic restrictions in force. Kaduva, which is a big budget entertainer produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, began shooting last year after Shaji Kailas had completed work on Mohanlal’s Alone.
Prithviraj wrapped up its shooting earlier this year. Kaduva will mark his second theatrical release since the pandemic. Jana Gana Mana, which hit theatres on April 28 this year, went on to be a superhit and marked a hat-trick of theatrical hits in the star’s career after Driving Licence and Ayyappanum Koshiyum. The movie, which is helmed by Dijo Jose Antony, is currently available to stream on Netflix.
