After Jailer's historic success, Nelson signs new deal with Sun Pictures

Jailer was a 'make or break' movie for Nelson after his reputation took a hit following the release of Beast.

The latest buzz is that Sun Pictures has signed another movie deal with a director after the historic box office success of Jailer. Starring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role, Jailer is making collection records in cinemas across the world.

If the rumour is true, then it will be Nelson's third consecutive movie with Sun Pictures after Beast and Jailer.

However, reports also suggest that Nelson will take a long break before he resumes his next directorial outing. Nelson had one release every year since 2021. His first big hit was Doctor, starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead. The movie braved the pandemic and became the biggest hit in 2021. In 2022, Nelson's Beast opened in cinemas during the Pongal holiday.

Why Jailer was an important movie for Nelson?

Jailer was a 'make or break' movie for Nelson. The young director's reputation took a hit following the release of Beast. Starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, Beast was released in cinemas amid a lot of expectations.

However, Beast received overwhelmingly poor reviews from everyone. That didn't deter the movie's success. Thanks to Vijay's huge stardom, Beast managed to successfully overcome the critical fiasco and emerge as a commercial hit at the box office. And the movie's profit bought Nelson the much-needed latitude to direct Rajinikanth in Jailer. Rajinikanth revealed that he was under a lot of pressure to fire Nelson following the poor critical reception of Beast. However, Rajinikanth stood by Nelson and expressed confidence in his talent to deliver an enjoyable movie. And Rajinikanth's conviction has paid off.

Jailer's box office collection so far

In the last 22 days, Jailer has managed to sell tickets worth of over Rs 550 crore worldwide. Celebrating the success of the movie, producer Kalanithi Maran gave a bonus to Nelson, and also gave a massive share in the profits to Rajinikanth.
