Though Vijay-starrer Beast which had Nelson Dilipkumar at its helm opened to mixed reviews upon release on April 13, it looks like the below par response hasn't affected much after its five-day weekend run. The movie is said to have joined the elite list of 200 crore club and becomes the star's fifth movie to achieve the feat.

Mersal, Sarkar, Bigil and Master are the other four projects which are already in the coveted club. Interestingly, all the five films of Vijay which released back-to-back from Mersal in 2017 have breached past the 200 crore club.

The hostage thriller is also said to have crossed Ajith's recent release Valimai which was out in theatres on February 24. On the day Beast released, Valimai, too, was trending on social media as fans of both the stars indulged in fights over day one record collections for a Tamil movie.

Though many argue that Beast surpassed Sarkar to emerge as the numero uno Tamil movie with regard to day one collection, there are others who believe that Valimai still holds the day one record. Valimai was released in more theatres; in the history of Kollywood, the Ajith-starrer was released in around 1,000 theatres for the first time.

A while ago, Boney Kapoor announced that Valimai had collected 200 crore when the film was ready for its OTT premiere. Beast has outdone the figures Valimai made with a comfortable margin in a few territories like USA, Kerala, Telugu states and GCC countries among others.

Fans of Vijay and the trade are eagerly looking forward to seeing how much Beast can collect in the weekdays considering the fact that KGF: Chapter 2 is having a dream run at the box office everywhere, including Tamil Nadu.
