Dulquer Salmaan, who is currently shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, is set to team up with Selvamani Selvaraj for Kaantha
South cinema enthusiasts were all praise for Mammootty’s recent venture Bramayugam, which was entirely shot and showcased in black and white. It is also among the rare experimental supernatural thrillers to gross Rs 50 crore at the box office. Now, reports have surfaced that buoyed by the Malayalam film’s success, Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming movie Kaantha will also be shot in monochrome.
Kaantha is helmed by filmmaker Selvamani Selvaraj who had previously directed a short feature titled Nila and the Netflix docu-series The Hunt for Veerappan. The movie is also produced by Rana Daggubati.
When OTTplay approached Selvamani to confirm the reports that the upcoming horror-thriller will also be shot in black and white, the filmmaker tells us, “That’s not true.” When asked about what the movie is about, he remained tight-lipped.

However, Selvamani did give us an update on when the much-anticipated project, which will be released in all South languages, will go on floors. “We are currently awaiting Dulquer to finish shooting his portions for Mani (Ratnam) sir’s movie (Thug Life). Once that is done, we will begin the shoot,” he says.

The team of Thug Life, which has a schedule in Chennai in March, will also leave for Serbia at the end. Dulquer, meanwhile, is also wrapping up his portions of his Telugu financial thriller Lucky Baskar, which is helmed by Venky Atluri. The team had earlier this month, revealed the actor’s character poster from the movie, which also has Meenakshi Chaudhary.

Apart from the Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life, Dulquer is also part of Sudha Kongara’s upcoming movie tentatively titled Suriya 43. The movie also has Suriya, Nazriya Nazim and Vijay Varma as part of the cast. There are also rumours that the King of Kotha star is in talks to sign the debut directorial of Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay and that he will be playing a prominent role in Nandamuri Balakrishna’s NBK 109.
