The response to the trailer has been exceptionally positive, no doubt, but not without its share of criticism
The much-awaited trailer of Adipurush is finally here and seems to be making the right kind of noise. Many were wishfully looking forward to the trailer in hopes of getting to see superstar Prabhas in all his glory as Lord Rama in Om Raut's reimagination of the Ramayana. Alongside, fans were also extremely eager to confirm the promised improvement of the visual effects, considering that the previously released teaser of Adipurush was pulled up by many for its lacklustre VFX work.
Well, judging by the word out there, everything seems to be back in order and fans cannot help but rave about what's in store. Terms like 'goosebumps', 'epic' and 'spectacle' are being used to describe the experience of the Adipurush trailer, which was also released theatrically earlier today on May 9. Kriti Sanon's look as Janaki and Saif Ali Khan's portrayal of the antagonist Ravana, too, have been picked out as the highlights of the film which is set to arrive in cinema halls worldwide on June 16, 2023.
But have all responses been positive? Well, to a large extent, yes, but amid all the encouragement have emerged a few interesting perspectives, especially with respect to Prabhas' aura as the protagonist Raghava. The role of Lord Rama has been a highly sought-after one for Indian actors and legends of the past, such as N.T. Rama Rao and Sobhan Babu, have immortalized the character on celluloid with their performances. So, when a fellow superstar like Prabhas enters this highly revered space, one is likely to draw comparisons and find a few faults.
And Prabhas' apparent lack of gravitas has evidently become a small topic of discussion among netizens who now opine that he isn't, perhaps, best suited to play Lord Rama. "Prabhas doesn't feel like Shri Ram," said one user who also felt that Kriti Sanon was 'too glamorous' to play Sita Devi in the mythology epic. Another user asserted that the Salaar actor had no expression on his face with a few others echoing these sentiments by adding that the Telugu superstar just doesn't seem to be emoting properly. A few more comments held the heavy VFX as the culprit for the lack of the required 'grandeur' in Prabhas' portrayal.
Several users from Karnataka, having watched the trailer in Kannada, lauded director Om Raut and co. for rendering the film at high standards but also shared that Prabhas is better suited for mass movies and not a film like Adipurush.
Well, it's certainly fascinating to see so many viewpoints being discussed on social media and it'd be fair to say each of them is valid in its own right. Regardless of the criticism, one feels that Adipurush promises a grand theatrical experience and the film boasts great chances of becoming an all-time blockbuster. Let the countdown for June 16 begin!
