Telugu superstar Prabhas's upcoming mythological drama Adipurush, directed by Om Raut and based on the epic Ramayana, is one of the highly-anticipated movies across the country. According to reports, the theatrical rights for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been sold at a whopping price range of Rs 160-170 crores. The journey of Adipurush has had its share of ups and downs. Initially scheduled for release in January, the film faced criticism and disappointment from fans after the teaser launch. In response, the release was postponed to ensure the enhancement of its quality. The subsequent trailer received a more positive response, as the filmmakers made efforts to address the concerns raised by fans. Adjustments were made to the film's visuals, including colour palette enhancements and additional CGI shots. However, some fans remain cautious, questioning whether these changes are merely an attempt to mask the movie's original flaws.
Prabhas has been eagerly awaiting major success in both commercial and critical terms. His previous film, Radhe Shyam, a romantic drama, underperformed at the box office, leaving fans wanting more. Adipurush, along with his upcoming film Salaar is expected to give Prabhas the breakthrough he desires. Prabhas's big-budget science-fiction Project K is also one of the most-awaited movies in India.
Besides Prabhas, Adipurush also features Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. The film's massive theatrical rights deal further heightens anticipation among audiences.
Adipurush is due in cinemas on June 16.
