A still from Adipurush.

The makers of Adipurush, the cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana, recently released the final trailer for the movie. In the promo video, they also included a glimpse of Saif Ali Khan's Ravan kidnapping Kriti Sanon's Sita using his magic trick, instead of physically coercing her.

And since the release of the trailer, fans of Prabhas have been trolling iconic filmmaker Ramanand Sagar for his portrayal of the kidnapping of Sita in the beloved television serial Ramayan.

Adipurush final trailer reaction: Prabhas' mythological drama leaves us in two minds. It's complicated

Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan television series has been hailed as a classic and has left a memorable mark on Indian television history. However, fans of Adipurush have slammed the crude portrayal of Sita's kidnapping by Ravan in the serial.

"Choose your Ramayan Wisely Ravan Never Touched Sita Maa, Where your so called Ramayan Serial Showing this and you guys start trolling #Prabhas sir #Adipurush And Also Sita maa lost her consciousness when Ravan Kidnapped her (sic)," tweeted a fan, drawing a parallel between the movie and the series.

Many fans have also been sharing similar sentiments online, suggesting that director Om Raut's vision for Ramayan was superior to Ramanand Sagar's.

Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan holds immense significance in the history of Indian television. It is considered one of the most iconic and influential television series ever produced in India. Originally aired from 1987 to 1988, Ramayan brought the ancient Indian epic to the small screen and captured the hearts of millions of viewers across the country.

This show could be termed as one of the first "pan-India" hits on Indian television, besides Mahabharat. The show's popularity transcended regional and cultural boundaries, bringing families together and creating a shared experience of cultural storytelling. It played a significant role in reviving interest in the Indian mythology.

Adipurush is based on Valmiki's Ramayana . The movie is made on a whopping budget, which is said to have cost its producers more than Rs 500 crore. Despite its astronomical budget, the movie came under fire for its poor visual effects.

Adipurush is due in cinemas on June 16.
