Om Raut is the film's director, and the Telugu and Hindi versions of the movie were both shot simultaneously.
After a long wait, Adipurush finally hits the big screen. The story is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana making this film a mythological epic. Om Raut wrote and directed Adipurush, and T-Series and Retrophiles produced it. Starring Prabhas as the title character and Kriti Sanon as Janaki, Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh, Sunny Singh as Laxmana, and Devdatta Nage as Bajrang, the film was filmed in Hindi and Telugu at the same time.
Now, after its theatrical run, Adipurush will be streaming on Netflix, especially the Hindi version. However, it's not known when the film will be out on the OTT giant. Will it wait for a longer time, like a few films, namely Bhediya and Vikram Vedha or within two months of its theatrical release? Only time will tell how the film performs on the big screen.
In Adipurush Prince Raghava (Prabhas) of Ayodhya, along with his brother Lakshmana (Sunny Singh) and Bajrang's (Devdatta Nage) army, set out to Lanka seven thousand years ago to rescue his wife Janaki (Kriti Sanon) from the demon ruler of Lanka, Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan).
With a budget of Rs. 500 crore, Adipurush is among the most costly Indian films ever filmed. The budget for special effects is anticipated to be Rs. 250 crore. The first estimate put the cost at Rs. 400 crore. The film's budget was originally set at Rs. 300 crore, but after receiving harsh criticism for its CGI and special effects in the teaser, it was boosted to Rs. 500 crore. It was filmed in 3D at the same time in Hindi and Telugu.
The premiere, which was scheduled for the Escape From Tribeca segment of the Tribeca Film Festival on June 13, 2023, was scrapped by the filmmakers. The film's international premiere, which was scheduled to take place at the festival on June 15 and 17, three days before the film's worldwide release, was cancelled.
Adipurush released in theatres on June 16, 2023.
