Om Raut directs the mythological drama that also stars Sunny Singh, Devdatta Nage and Saif Ali Khan
Nearly two years into its making, Adipurush, the mythological drama and the retelling of Ramayana, releases in theatres on June 9. Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, Saif Ali Khan and Devdatta Nage are cast as Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Ravana and Hanuman respectively. Om Raut is the writer-director of the film produced by T Series, UV Creations and Retrophiles Pvt Ltd.
The film’s grand pre-release event was held in Tirupathi earlier this week to kickstart promotions, where the final trailer was launched to encouraging responses from audiences. After launching the songs and other promos, Adipurush’s first copy has been finally certified by the CBFC and is officially rated U (fit for unrestricted public exhibition and is family-friendly).
The censor report shared by the makers reveals that the film is 179-minutes long. This is certainly among the lengthiest mainstream films to be releasing in the recent times. Of course, there are many backstories, characters in Ramayana and they deserve enough time to be established well. The challenge remains to keep audiences invested in a well-known story during the three-hour runtime.
The report also suggests that the screening for the CBFC board was held in Mumbai and the final formalities were wrapped up today. “#Adipurush Gets a ‘U-Certificate’ from Censor Board, becoming Prathi Bharatheeyudi Cinema!,” the makers wrote as they shared the report. Ajay-Atul, Sachet-Parampara have scored the music for the film. Karthik Palani cranked the camera for the film while it was edited Apurva Motiwale Sahai and Ashish Mhatre.
Adipurush is believed to have been made on a budget of Rs 500 crore. Amazon Prime Video has acquired its post-theatrical digital rights. The film was to premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 13 but the screening has been pushed to a later date by the makers.
