Netizens have been sharing screenshots of the now deleted tweet allegedly by the filmmaker from April 2015
Filmmaker Om Raut has, most definitely, irked and offended a large section of audiences with his take on the epic Ramayan – Adipurush. The Prabhas-led film, which opened in theatres world-wide on June 16 has received mixed reviews, but the majority seem to have not liked his modern-day adaptation. The trolling’s been relentless since last morning, when the first batch of audiences emerged after the early shows of the film. From Prabhas’ look to Saif Ali Khan’s double-decker 10-headed Ravan avatar, his ‘batmobile’ and T-shirt ensemble, there was much that audiences just couldn’t wrap their heads around.
Adipurush review: Prabhas, Kriti Sanon can’t salvage this tacky, soulless retelling of Ramayana
As if this was not fuel enough to irk them, now, to make matters an old tweet, allegedly by Om Raut, has resurfaced. In the tweet from 2015 that emerged from what seems to be his verified account, he wrote, “Was GodHanuman deaf? People across my building think so. Playing loud music, like “really loud” on Hanuman Jayanti. Plus all irrelevant songs.”
Sharing screen shots of the now-deleted tweet, netizens responded with, “How can we expect people who have such views on Hindu gods to make a Good film on Ramayana? Adipurush is a clear conspiracy of Bollywood to distort our history & detach the young generation from their roots”, “Only in India you can call our god 'Behra' (Deaf) and get away with it. Going to file an FIR against @omraut , who will come with me?”, “True colour of #OmRaut Calling Hanuman ji deaf in past and now keeping Hanuman Ji’s photo in theatres to fool Hindus and earn money. Bl00dy hypocrite!”, among others.
This development cropped up after social media began to be flooded with snap shots of disgruntled audiences cancelling their tickets of Adipurush en masse, following the negative reviews for the film.
