From love stories to satires, this week’s Malayalam OTT, theatre releases have enough to satisfy fans of all genres
While there’s been a dearth of Malayalam releases the past month, this week will kick off the festive releases in April. Suraj Venjaramoodu’s Madanolsavam and Ahaana Krishna, Shine Tom Chacko-starrer Adi are the theatrical releases this Vishu, if you have already caught up with Enthada Saji and Pookkaalam last week.
OTT platforms too have two big releases with Super Sharanya team’s romantic drama Pranaya Vilasam and Lal, Anagha Narayanan’s feel-good family entertainer Dear Vappi. Disney+ Hotstar has also reportedly made a few changes, including adding music to certain portions in their last week’s release Romancham.
Here’s a list of the latest Malayalam movies that you can stream on OTT and watch in theatres this weekend.
Adi
Release platform: Theatre
NRI Sajeev comes to Kerala to get married to Geethika. After the newly-married couple’s wedding, they face an issue to which both of them react differently. The movie, starring Ahaana Krishna, Shine Tom Chacko and Dhruvan, is helmed by Prasobh Vijayan and scripted by Ishq writer Ratheesh Ravi. The movie is produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films.

Madanolsavam
Release platform: Theatre
Madanan is a layman who earns a livelihood by colouring chickens and selling them. He accidentally entangled in a political issue and then has to chart a course to get out of the mess. The events that happen during his journey form the plot of this political satire, starring Suraj Venjaramoodu, Babu Antony, Rajesh Madhavan and Bhama Arun. Madanolsavam is scripted by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval and helmed by debutant Sudheesh Gopinath.
Pranaya Vilasam
Release platform: ZEE5, OTTplay Premium
Village officer Rajeev and his son are oblivious to the dreams and thoughts of the matriarch, Anu, in the household as they chase their romance in their lives. However, after a tragic incident, the father-son duo decides to track down Anu’s first love and, in the process, also mend their broken relationship. Arjun Ashokan, Anaswara Rajan, Mamitha Baiju, Sreedhanya, Manoj KU and Hakkim Shahjahan star in the film, helmed by Nikhil Muraly.
Dear Vappi
Release platform: Manorama Max, OTTplay Premium
Tailor Basheer finally decides to return to his hometown after spending decades in Mumbai. His plan is to setup a designer business with his daughter Amira helping him run the venture. But it’s easier said than done. The movie, starring Lal, Anagha Narayanan and Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju, revolves around the hurdles that the family has to face while they embark on this entrepreneurial venture.
