Adam Sandler confirmed back in April 2022 that he is reuniting with Benny and Josh Safdie, the Safdie Brothers, for a film described loosely as a 'follow-up to Uncut Gems'. The 2019 crime thriller saw Sandler in an alluring, never-before-seen avatar as the restless gambling addict/jeweller Howard Ratner who goes to extreme lengths to retrieve a precious gem and pay off his debts. Uncut Gems won Adam Sandler the award for Best Actor at the National Board of Review with many critics opining that his performance also deserved an Oscar nomination which he would eventually miss out on.

As far as the follow-up is concerned, the 56-year-old movie star recently teased a massive 340-page script for the upcoming collaboration, describing it as 'insane and great' in the same vein. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year in January, Adam Sandler expressed excitement over the opportunity to work with the Safdies again and lauded the brothers for their commitment towards their craft.

"They just write hundreds and hundreds of pages. I’ll read them and I’ll say, “I like the part when this …” And they’ll be like, “Oh, that’s not in it anymore. We did a whole other thing. We’re going to send you a new draft.” They just don’t stop writing and thinking and coming at every angle they can, and this movie we’re going to do is pretty amazing. The first draft of the new one was 340 pages! It was insane and it was great," said Adam Sandler in his conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.

Although the new collaboration is being described as a follow-up to Uncut Gems it is unclear at the moment whether the 2019 film's storyline leads into the new film and details concerning Adam Sandler's character, too, are currently under wraps. The upcoming feature has been commissioned by Netflix.

Uncut Gems also stars LaKeith Stanfield, Julia Fox, Kevin Garnett, Idina Menzel and Eric Bogosian.

Sandler and Safdie Brothers would forge a mini-reunion in 2020 with a short film titled Goldman v Silverman which premiered on Vimeo. Benny Safdie starred alongside Sandler as a fellow street performer in the critically acclaimed short.
