Acharya: Sonu Sood on playing the antagonist in Chiranjeevi’s action drama

Chiranjeevi’s much awaited action drama hit theatres today following a lot of anticipation from the fans. Sonu Sood has now opened up about playing the bad guy in the movie, and talking about the reservations Chiranjeevi had.

Talking to Indian Express, the actor said that it was very difficult for people to see him play the bad guy and even the makers had reservations about it. He said the producers, directors and writers spoke about how they cannot see him in a negative shade anymore.

“I remember I started shooting for two films before Covid-19, including Acharya. And they had to rework a little bit on a few scenes. Like in the action sequences, Chiranjeevi sir was not sure if hitting me will be accepted by people. So yes, people are thinking a lot about it,” he said.

He added that all the scripts he is receiving now are positive roles and that a “second innings” is on its way.

During the coronavirus lockdown, the actor started getting clout and entered the public’s good books for doing charitable work. Having turned himself into a philanthropist, it is understandable that movie makers are now offering him more positive roles.

Acharya, directed by Koratala Siva, hit theaters today and has received mixed reactions. “Acharya will serve as a good reminder for Koratala Siva to stay true to his strengths as a writer and not go too far in pleasing the egos of his stars. No mincing words here, Acharya is a misfire, by all means. Not even the most loyal fans of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan would be able to defend this below-average commercial potboiler.” reads the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Also starring Pooja Hegde, Jisshu Sengupta, Vennela Kishore, and Saurav Lokesh among others, the movie is available in theatres.
