The movie, directed by B Unnikrishnan, was initially set to hit theatres on February 10
The wait for Mohanlal’s Aaraattu is all set to end. The makers, who had initially announced a February 10 release date, has now confirmed that the movie will hit theatres on February 18.
Last week, Mohanlal fans, who were waiting with bated breath for an update on the superstar’s much-anticipated ‘mass’ entertainer, were treated to its first trailer. Packed with action, comedy and drama, the B Unnikrishnan directorial has the actor essaying a larger-than-life role as Neyyattinkara Gopan.
The film had wrapped up its shoot early last year, but considering its big budget, the makers have been keen to release it only in theatres, despite multiple OTT platforms approaching for its streaming rights. The makers had also announced several release dates – from August 2021 to February 10, 2022 – but the pandemic and lockdowns had stalled the release plans.
However, we have now learnt from credible sources that the movie will hit theatres on February 18. This would also mean that Mammootty’s Bheeshmaparvam will shift its release date by a week or two, as the theatre exhibitors will be keen to avoid a clash between two superstar-driven films within a week.
Aaraattu, which is scripted by Udaykrishna, revolves around a real-estate tycoon who travels from Thiruvananthapuram to Palakkad to survey the land he has bought, only to get embroiled in issues that take place in the latter area.
Kannada actress Shraddha Srinath plays an IAS officer in the film, which also has KGF fame Ramachandra Raju, Sidhique, Nedumudi Venu, Indrans, Vijayaraghavan, Sai Kumar and Swasika. The movie, which was shot after the first lockdown amid tight restrictions, also has composer AR Rahman in a cameo as himself.
Aaraattu will also mark Mohanlal’s second theatrical release since the pandemic after Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. Over the past year, the actor has had two direct-to-OTT releases – Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2 and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy.
