Aanandham Paramaanandham, directed by Shafi, also has Indrans, Baiju Santosh and Aju Varghese in pivotal roles
Director Shafi’s comedy entertainer Aanandham Paramaanandham has got its OTT release The movie, which hit theatres as a Christmas release last year, had Sharafudheen and Indrans as its lead actors with Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam fame Anagha essaying its female protagonist.
The movie had Indrans playing the character of a retired postal worker named Kurup, who finds solace in alcohol and spends most of his time at the local toddy shop. He meets his match with Gireesh PP, essayed by Sharafudheen, who is a Gulf-returnee and is as much of an alcoholic as Kurup. The equation between the two, however, changes when Kurup finds out that Gireesh falls for his daughter.
Shafi, in an earlier interview with OTTplay, told us, “Both of the lead characters in Aanandham Paramaanandham are alcoholics and though there are scenes that involve alcohol, there’s also a social message that we are trying to deliver with the movie.”
The filmmaker also explained that the movie doesn’t have over-the-top or slapstick comedy that the audience usually expects from his movies. “This isn’t a very rooted or realistic film; even though I have toned it down, it’s still my movie,” he said. “It’s a small film compared to the ones I have done so far. It doesn’t have the loud comedy or drama that are usually associated with my films; this is more of a light-hearted tale.”
Apart from Sharafudheen, Indrans and Anagha, the film also has Baiju Santosh and Aju Varghese in pivotal roles. They add to the comedic events in the film, said the filmmaker.
The film’s OTT rights were bagged by Manorama Max, which is currently streaming the film on the platform. Aanandham Paramaanandham is scripted by M Sindhuraj. Meanwhile, Sharafudheen, who was last seen in Djinn and 1744 White Alto, is also part of Stephy Zaviour’s directorial debut Madhura Manohara Moham, which also has Rajisha Vijayan and Bindu Panicker as part of its cast.
