Aamir Khan & Co. are only days away from bringing their passion project Laal Singh Chaddha out on the big screens. The film has been in the making for quite some time but has had to endure the pandemic and several other factors en route to the theatrical release. While Aamir Khan plays the titular role along with being the producer, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya (Hindi debut), Mona Singh, and others make up the principal cast of the epic film.

And now, as per the official updates, Laal Singh Chaddha has been certified U/A by the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) on August 2, 2022. The final run time of the film is 164 minutes and 50 seconds, which is only 10 seconds shy of 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Laal Singh Chaddha, as many would know already, is the official remake of the 1994 comedy-drama Forrest Gump which starred Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in the lead roles.

Forrest Gump depicted a large chunk of the titular character’s life against the evolving backdrop of the post-World War II U.S.A. The film won six Academy Awards or Oscars including Best Actor (Tom Hanks), Best Director (Robert Zemeckis), and Best Picture (Wendy Finerman, Steve Starkey, and Steve Tisch).

Interestingly, Forrest Gump’s runtime is 22 minutes shorter than that of the upcoming Indian remake. The trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha does suggest that the film is a faithful retelling of the same story, albeit with a stark tonal shift, inclusion of songs, and other sequences to cater to the Indian audiences.

Regardless, it would be interesting to see how the same narrative pans out almost three decades later. Laal Singh Chaddha releases on August 11, 2022 in Hindi and will also be dubbed and released in Telugu and Tamil.

Written by Atul Kulkarni (based on the screenplay by Eric Roth) and directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha has been produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Jyoti Deshpande, Ajit Andhare, and Radhika Chaudhari. Satyajit Pande (Setu) serves as the cinematographer with Pritam composing the songs and Tanuj Tiku scoring the background music. Hemanti Sarkar is the film’s editor.
