Aamir Khan’s "Dangal" was released on December 22, 2016, and was instantly a hit, earning a massive number in a fortnight. The movie starred Aamir Khan with Sakshi Tanwar in the lead and also marked the big-screen debut of Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The movie, directed by the maverick filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, technically created the Rs 2000 crore club for Indian cinema. "Dangal’s" Box Office achievements are a different story to rejoice in itself. The movie came in as motivation, redemption, and an emotional rollercoaster for the audience.

Based on the life of the famous Phogat sisters Geeta, and Babita, and their father Mahaveer Phogat, "Dangal" explores their life from the time Mahaveer decided to make her daughters learn the art of boxing and rise above their condition. The discipline of the father and his dedication to giving his daughters the strength to rule the world resonated with the audience, and the movie was lapped up by them instantly. The movie was appreciated by critics and audiences unanimously.

- "Dangal," with a gross domestic Box Office of 387 crores, was the highest-grossing live-action sports movie of 2016-2017. It took Shah Rukh Khan’s "Pathaan" and seven years for another movie to beat "Dangal’s" 387 collections.

- The year 2016 was technically one of the most rewarding years for Disney, which had seen not one or two but three blockbusters already. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2," "Pirates of the Caribbean 5," and "Beauty And The Beast" were all blockbusters. "Dangal," with a massive collection, made sure it represented India on that list as it became the studio's fourth blockbuster.

    - "Dangal," with its subject, spoke to people across the world without the barrier of language. The movie went on to earn over $100 million gross overseas and was the first and the only Indian film to do so for a very long time.

    - Aamir Khan is one of the most ace superstars, and there is no way the actor might not have set some personal records. As per reports, "Dangal" marked the biggest single film payday for any actor ever until then.

    - The list of Dangal's China achievements is super long, but a prominent one is that the movie managed to stay in the theaters in China for the most consecutive days. The film was on screen for 38 days.
