Omkara is one of the finest films directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The filmmaker helmed this movie with Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead roles. Saif is still remembered for his role as Langda Tyagi in the 2006 film. However, it was Aamir Khan who initially wanted to essay the same character in Vishal's film. The director made this revelation in his new interview.
Why Aamir Khan couldn't do Omkara?
Vishal Bhardwaj had once shared details about Langda Tyagi's character with Aamir Khan. To this, the perfectionist had told Vishal that he would love to be considered for the role whenever he would make Omkara. "I wanted to make a film desperately, so I thought if this character can excite Aamir so much, then I can excite another star with this. At the time, I had seen Saif’s work," the filmmaker told Mid-Day.
Revealing why Aamir didn't come on board for Omkara, Vishal added that the actor was busy with Rang De Basanti. At the same time, the filmmaker didn't wish to get stuck for another one and a half years. Hence, he decided to make the film with any actor he could get on board.
Vishal Bhardwaj on Saif Ali Khan's transformation for Omkara
In the same conversation, Vishal mentioned that when he saw Saif in movies before Dil Chahta Hai, he felt the actor's voice was feminine and his performances were weird. However, Bhardwaj added Saif worked on himself in Dil Chahta Hai.
Later, when he offered Omkara to Saif, the actor agreed to work hard for Langda Tyagi's character. 'He really (worked hard), except for cutting his hair. With great effort, we convinced him to cut his hair because he was not ready to cut it," he told the publication.
On the work front for Visha Bhardwaj
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Vishal Bhardwaj's last film was Khufiya. Actress Tabu played the lead role in Vishal's film, which dropped on Netflix. Besides Tabu, the film featured Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Atul Kulkarni, and others.
