One thing you can’t fault the team of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Blessy’s Aadujeevitham is their attention to detail. The Malayalam movie, which has been in the making for 16 years now, was released in theatres last week and the audience and critics have praised the lead actor’s transformation as its protagonist Najeeb .

Now, the film’s sketch artist Sethu Sivanandan released a few concept sketches that director Blessy had him draw to showcase his vision for Najeeb ahead of the film’s shoot. The sketches that range from Najeeb’s time before he left for Saudi Arabia to his shock at having been trapped at the masara and his life as a goatherd, where he was at his weakest, are amazingly well detailed. In fact, some of the sketches also show a different version of Najeeb than the one that the audience saw on screen.

Sharing a video of a bunch of these sketches, Sethu, who was credited for the concept sketches in the movie based on Benyamin’s novel, said, “These concept sketches were made for director Blessy sir before the film had began shooting, based on the various stages (of Najeeb’s transformation). Some of these have been used and some weren’t. Blessy sir has detailed everything – down to the scars on his face.”

The various stages also paint a picture of how much Najeeb had changed from when he had just arrived at the Middle Eastern country in hope of a better job to him finally leaving Saudi Arabia, after escaping the clutches of an Arab who had enslaved him.

In a recent interview with OTTplay, Blessy said that he had given Prithviraj full freedom to interpret the character the way he wanted and this is the reason he was able to extract the best performance out of him. “I don’t want an artiste to mimic what I tell him to; an actor should understand and imbibe his character and portray it with all emotions. He has to be the person who hasn't talked for the past three years, the one who has lost muscle and mass,” he said, adding that Prithviraj was able to do complete justice to the Najeeb that the filmmaker had envisioned.
