Billed as a comedy-drama, the film is the story of the dysfunctional Aachar family that must navigate various ups and downs during the '60s and '70s.
Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy's debut film Aachar & Co. comes as a nostalgic ride back in time to the quaint Bengaluru of the 1960s. Billed as a comedy-drama, the film is the story of the dysfunctional Aachar family that must navigate various ups and downs and also realize individual dreams and passions. Sindhu, who has co-written Aachar & Co. with stand-up comic Kanan Gill plays one of the main protagonists, Suma, whose coming-of-age arc forms the crux of the story.
Also starring in the film are senior actors Ashok (as the family patriarch Madhusudhan Aachar) and Sudha Belawadi (his wife Savithri) along with well-known theatre artists such as Anirudh Acharya, Harshil Koushik, Vamsidhar Bhogaraju and several others.
When and where to watch Aachar & Co. on OTT
Produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar's PRK Productions and Gurudath A Talwar, Aachar & Co. released in theatres on July 28 and opened to mixed to positive reviews with critics praising its unorthodox setting, the cinematography and the performances but highlighting the lacklustre screenplay.
The film clashed with Shashank's Kousalya Supraja Rama at the box office and also had the previous week's release Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare to contend with. However, despite the tough challenge and a comparatively small release in terms of screen count, Aachar & Co. has held its own and yielded encouraging results thus far. The film is currently playing in theatres.
But for those who wish to watch this endearing slice-of-life tale from the comfort of their homes, the film is all set to debut on OTT this month. Aachar & Co will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 22, 2023.
A female-led endeavour
Another highlight of Aachar & Co. is that the core team of the film comprises several female technicians, making it a rare occurrence in Kannada cinema. Led by Sindhu herself, the technical crew also includes music composer Bindhumalini, creative Producer Dannilla Donald Correya, costume Stylist Inchara Suresh, sound engineer Hema Suvarna and, of course, producer Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar. The cast of Aachar & Co, too, includes female actors such as Sudha Belawadi, Nisha Hegde, Mandara Battalahalli, Trishara, Kirana Varshini, Keerti Vardhini, Sonu Venugopal and others.
