Fans of Kannada cinema’s late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar have lots to rejoice to today. For starters, his much-anticipated last commercial film, James, is in theatres now, with everyone making a beeline to the nearest movie hall to catch it first-day-first-show (FDFS). Much as they are excited about the release of James, they have also been fretting about the fact that it will mark the last time they get to go for a Puneeth Rajkumar film FDFS. Well, there is a ray of hope still, or maybe even a couple.

On Puneeth’s birthday today (March 17), KRG Connects announced that a film in which he played a pivotal cameo will release in theatres soon. Along with a poster of the upcoming Lucky Man, KRG Connects wrote, “A man who is immortal is God and that God is arriving soon.” The Darling Krishna starrer is the remake of the Tamil film Oh My Kadavule, in which Vijay Sethupathi played God, a role that Puneeth has done in the Kannada version.

Directed by Nagendra Prasad, who is choreographer-actor-director Prabhu Deva’s brother, Lucky Man has been in post-production since late last year, with Krishna saying that he had begun dubbing for the film in December. Back then, the actor, who shared a long association with Puneeth, having assisted on Jackie and acted with him in Hudugaru and Doddmane Hudga, had taken to social media to say that dubbing his scenes that also had the late Power Star were the toughest for him. “Started dubbing for #Luckyman movie. Dubbing these scenes were the toughest part. Shooting for this film with Appu sir was very special and it will remain special forever,” he had written along with a fleeting video glimpse of scene featuring Krishna, Puneeth and Sadhu Kokila. It is not clear if Puneeth had dubbed for his portions prior to his demise, given that he’d last shot for the film – a dance number featuring him and Prabhu Deva in mid-September, a good month and a half before he passed away.

And finally, Puneeth's last onscreen outing will, in all likelihood be Gandhada Gudi, the wildlife documentary he shot with Wild Karnataka maker J Amoghavarsha - a project that the late actor was immensely proud of.
