A Holy Conspiracy: Soumitra Chatterjee and Naseeruddin Shah’s courtroom drama to release soon

Directed by Saibal Mitra, the film also features Kaushik Sen and others.

After receiving accolades in various prestigious film festivals, A Holy Conspiracy is now all set to release in theaters. Directed by Saibal Mitra, the trailer of the movie was launched on Friday. With Naseeruddin Shah and Soumitra Chattopadhyay in pivotal roles, A Holy Conspiracy is based on the famous play, Inherit the Wind, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E Lee.

Besides the two stalwarts, noted actors Kaushik Sen, Subhrajit Datta, Biplab Dasgupta, Amrita Chattopadhyay, Sraman Chattopadhyay, Anushua Majumderand others are also seen in the trailer that delves into the life of a science teacher who denies teaching a religious text before his usual science class. His action is then blown out of proportion and he gets arrested. A trial follows that focuses on the age-old debate of science versus religion.

Speaking about the film, director Saibal Mitra stated, “A Holy conspiracy was completed just before the pandemic started. And we had to wait for two and half years to release it. Finally, it will be released on July 29. We all are very happy. However, Soumitra Chatterjee is no longer with us and that is something we are still dealing with emotionally. We hope that the viewers will enjoy the memorable performance of Soumitra and Naseeruddin on the screen.”

The director also added that just because Soumitra and Naseeruddin have worked in the film, it will get a position in the history of Indian cinema. “I feel privileged and honored. Besides, the film also presents a bunch of fantastic actors. Anashua Majumdfer alone can present an acting masterclass for the younger generation,” Saibal said.

On this trailer launch, actor Amrita Chattopadhyay said, “It feels great that the trailer of our film is seeing the light of the day today. People get a glimpse of what to expect from the film from the trailer itself. It's a rare opportunity to be a major part of this film. We all know how Saibal da managed all the difficulties and shot the film. I am looking forward to hearing the reactions from the audience.”
