Singh plays the role of Kapil Dev in the film, who had captained the Indian cricket team during their first World Cup victory in 1983
Ranveer Singh’s 83, which was one of the most anticipated releases of the year, has hit the big screens today. Essaying the role of cricketing legend Kapil Dev in the film, Singh had big shoes to fill. And on the day audiences finally get to see the fruits of his labour on screen, Singh took the opportunity to thank the cast and crew of the film for their role in bringing the project onto the screen.
Singh penned a heartfelt thank you note on his official Instagram handle. Expressing that he was brimming with emotion, Singh started by thanking the Almighty, and then the film’s cast and crew. The actor recounted how they had put in the effort religiously and without compromising on sincerity. He added that all the sessions they had to perfect their cricketing skills, under the coaching of Rajiv Mehra, had been ‘worth it’ in the end. The star makes special mention of Mehra in the caption as well, referring to him as his ‘coach’.
83 is a sports drama, which traces the story of the Indian cricket team’s historic first win at the 1983 World Cup against West Indies. The Indian team, under the captaincy of Dev, had been considered an underdog at the tournament and had defied all odds and expectations with the victory.
The film is directed by Kabir Khan. In addition to Singh, the film also features Deepika Padukone,Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem,Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk,Pankaj Tripathi,Boman Irani, Nishant Dahiya, Sahil Khattar, Chirag Patil and Dinker Sharma.
83 released on December 24 and is now playing in theatres.
