If you are in the mood for a mindless comedy entertainer to enjoy this Sunday, look no further than actor Santhanam's latest comedy-drama 80s Buildup. The film, which is touted as a caper comedy, is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

In 80s Buildup, Santhanam plays a die-hard fan of Superstar Kamal Haasan. The filmmakers seem to have defied the unwritten rule that Tamil movie heroes with a touch of charisma are exclusively fans of Superstar Rajinikanth. The film adds a touch of historical accuracy by acknowledging Kamal's greater stardom compared to Rajinikanth in the 80s.

In the meantime, this film marks Santhanam's return to the pure comedy genre after a significant hiatus. He first made his mark in Tamil cinema by playing comedic sidekicks to big stars in movies. Later, he promoted himself to playing lead roles in films. However, as a lead actor, he resorted to doing a lot of actions, while comedy played second fiddle to his newfound mass persona on the big screen. However, in this latest film, he breaks from that trend, embracing a full-fledged comedic role, signalling a refreshing return to his comedic roots.

Santhanam seems to have retained his trademark comedy style, which is indiscriminately roasting everyone around him.

Based on the trailer, Santhanam is a happy-go-lucky guy, who is aimlessly wandering by celebrating the larger-than-life personas of movie stars. However, his life takes a drastic turn with the passing of his grandfather, who seems to love him very much.

The entire story plays out against the background of a funeral held for the hero's grandfather. Things take an intriguing twist when the spirit of the grandfather adamantly refuses to depart with Yama (the god of death) and his assistant Chitragupta until they fulfil five specific wishes. Complicating matters further is a group of thieves attempting to steal a vintage knife from the deceased's residence, resulting in a comedic drama of memorable proportions.

Written and directed by S Kalyan, the movie also stars Radhika Preethi, K.S.Ravikumar, Anand Raj and Mansoor Ali Khan.
