777 Charlie director Kiranraj: When Prithviraj came on board, I informed my mother even before Rakshit Shetty
The filmmaker was in Kochi on Monday with the cast and crew of the upcoming film, which is distributed in Kerala by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames

It was a special moment for director Kiranraj K, who has helmed the much-awaited Kannada film 777 Charlie, when Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran agreed to present the film in Kerala. The director, who is from Kasaragod, was in Kochi on Monday along with the Rakshit Shetty-starrer’s cast and crew as part of its promotions.
Talking about getting Prithviraj Productions onboard as its distributor in Kerala, Kiranraj said that he has been a huge fan of the actor. “I knew that the Kannada film was in safe hands, but I also wanted the Malayalam version to be presented by someone like that,” he said.
He revealed that he tried to get in touch with Prithviraj several times but didn’t succeed. “Just before the teaser launch, I told Raja sir that I would like to have Prithviraj present our film,” he said, adding that he had sent the showreel. “Raja sir called me back after several hours and said Prithvi loved the showreel and he shared the number. After that Rakshit sir had talked to him. But the first thing that I did, even before informing Rakshit sir, was call my mother and tell her, ‘Amma, Prithviraj is presenting 777 Charlie in Malayalam’. Amma had been his fan from Nandanam,” revealed the filmmaker.
Kiranraj also explained that he has been working in films in Bengaluru for the past 10 years. “But a lot of my friends in Kasaragode had doubts if I am actually doing something in cinema. After the news of Prithviraj coming onboard was out, they were convinced,” he said.
The director revealed that he took five years to make the film. “It took me a year and a half to complete the scripting and research. After that we had shot for 167 days,” he said.
The movie, which revolves around the relationship between a dog named Charlie and Rakshit’s character Dharma, will hit theatres on June 10. The film will release in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
