72 Hoorain: Makers of film to hold a special screening at Jawaharlal Nehru University on July 4 after facing criticism from CBFC

Official Poster of the movie titled '72 Hoorain'.

Recently, on June 29, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) dismissed reports that the trailer of 72 Hoorain was denied certification, saying the matter is "under due process". This statement by the censor board is contrary to the statement made by the film's co-producer, Ashoke Pandit, who claimed the ‘censor board refused to give a certificate’ to the trailer of the movie. The movie is slated to be released on July 7.

In the middle of this debate, news agency ANI has reported today that the film’s makers will hold a special screening at Jawaharlal Nehru University in the national capital on July 4.

Jawaharlal Nehru University is often considered as a hotspot for protests – which encircle issues of national interest and global politics. In January this year, protests emerged inside the campus of the University after a group of people screened a BBC documentary, India: The Modi Question. The Indian government later banned this documentary.

Not only this but also in May this year, this University grabbed headlines again after a group of people screened ‘The Kerala Story’. As claimed by a section of society, the movie is against the Muslim community. However, time and again, the Central government has dismissed such claims. The Kerala Story, later, minted over Rs 100 crores at the box office in India.

With the screening event of 72 Hoorain nearing closer, only time will tell what the future holds for the film. Meanwhile, the censor board in a press note said, “Misleading reports are being circulated in certain sections of media that a film and its trailer titled 'Bahattar Hoorain (72 Hoorain)' has been refused certification by Central Board of Film Certification. Contrary to the reports, CBFC states that the film 'Bahattar Hoorain (72 Hoorain)' was granted 'A' certification, and the certificate was issued on 4-10-2019."

Produced by Saarthie Entertainment and Aliens Pictures, '72 Hoorain' is written by Anil Pandey and Junaid Wasi.
