The 70th National Film Awards have been announced and several Bollywood films have won coveted honours. Veteran director Sooraj Barjatya’s 2022 film Uunchai, has won awards in two major categories. Sooraj Barjatya has won the Best Director Award, while Neena Gupta also won the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in this noted film.

Sooraj Barjatya gets Best Director honour

Uunchai has secured two awards at the 70th National Film Awards that were announced by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at a presser in New Delhi on Friday.

Sooraj Barjatya has won the Best Director Award for the Hindi adventure drama which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani in the lead roles. The movie also featured Neena Gupta, who has been bestowed with the Best Supporting Actress Award.

Parineeti Chopra and Danny Denzongpa are also part of the film.

Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film follows three veteran friends — Amit Srivastava, Om Sharma and Javed Siddiqui —  who embark on a daring expedition to Mount Everest.

Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai

Uunchai is a cinematic masterpiece that is a testament to Sooraj Barjatya’s talent. The stunning visuals of the hilly region, gripping storyline, and exceptional performances of the actors made it a standout film among the other releases of 2022. The film is a return to the director’s signature style, exploring the universal themes of love, loyalty, and the enduring power of human connection. The film was made on a budget of Rs. 25 crore and registered worldwide box office collection of Rs. 50 crore.

Other big wins for Bollywood

Sharmila Tagore’s Gulmohar won the Best Hindi Film award, while Arpita Mukherjee and Rahul V Chittela secured the Best Dialogue Writing Award for the same film.

Ranbir Kapoor’s 2022 film Brahmāstra won three awards, including Best Film in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic. Additionally, Arijit Singh secured the Best Playback Singer Award for ‘Kesariya’ song, while Pritam won the award for Best Music Direction.
