Shraddha Kapoor attempted a grey character for the first time in her career with Haseena Parkar. Directed by filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia, the movie was a biographical crime thriller, based on the life of underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar. While Shraddha essayed the titular role, her brother Siddhanth Kapoor played Dawood's character. The movie, which was released in 2017, has completed 7 years since it hit the big screen. Apoorva Lakhia's 2017 film Haseena Parkar was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 18 crore. However, the film underperformed at the ticket window as it earned around Rs 11 crore in its lifetime box office collection. The movie had received mixed reviews upon its theatrical release around 7 years ago.

Earlier, in an interview with ANI, Shraddha mentioned that Haseena Parkar's 'emotional' story was convincing enough for her to do the project. "Being the sister of the most wanted person, Haseena has gone through a lot and so it became very challenging for me as an actor to portray her character onscreen," she had said.
Kapoor also stated that filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia had prepped for the film for about 2 years. Since the director spent time with Haseena Parkar and was close to her story, it became beneficial for the film's team.
