Suriya and GV Prakash with Sudha Kongara
Soorarai Pottru stood tall among all movies at the 68th National Film Awards which was announced a few days ago. The Sudha Kongara-directorial fetched five awards; Best Actor (Suriya), Best Background Score (GV Prakash), Best Screenplay (Sudha and Shalini Usha), Best Feature Film and Best Actress (Aparna Balamurali).
Suriya, Aparna and GV Prakash had expressed their excitement after winning the award through their social media pages. However, Sudha, who is busy with the Hindi remake of the project, opened up on the same only today.
She penned a long heartfelt note on the movie bagging five prestigious awards and dedicated those to her dad who passed away around the time the film went on floors. She tweeted, "Thank you dad for the many moments from our lives I've put into Soorarai Pottru. My only regret at this moment of winning the awards is you not being there to see it."
Sudha also thanked her mentor Mani Ratnam profusely and said that she's a zero without all those he had taught her over the years. She then thanked Captain Gopinath and Suriya, the former for trusting her with his life story and the latter for living it on screen.
The director then thanked GV Prakash, assistant directors, media, her family members and the audience, who according to her, keeps her going. "You keep me alive. You keep me going. You are my Gods (sic)," she posted.
She concluded by giving a big shout-out to female filmmakers who have been struggling to make a mark in the industry fighting all the odds. "You are blazing paths for many young ladies out there to tread fear less in the near future (sic)," she posted.
