Music director GV Prakash is quite an excited man after having bagged the National Award for the Best Background Score in Sudha Kongara's Soorarai Pottru. The film, which has Suriya and Aparna Balamurali in the lead, is inspired by the life of low-cost airline Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath. The composer, who said that he didn't expect the award, called it a dream come true.

He said, "I am very happy. I didn't expect this award. This morning, when I was leaving for my shoot, I got a call from Sudha Kongara. She said that I had got an award. When I asked her if she was serious, she said 'yes'. It is a like a dream come true."

GV Prakash added that the Soorarai Pottru team had worked very hard on the film. "It is good to be recognised for all the hardwork you put in as it gives you a sense of hope and motiviation. We worked really hard on this film. In fact, everyone put the equal amount of effort. We will continue to work harder. I am glad the film bagged so many awards."

Interetstingly, this is GV Prakash's maiden National Award. "This is my first National Award and I am glad that the award came through this film, through Sudha madam and Suriya sir, who also won awards for the film. I also want to wish all fellow National Award winners. I congratulate each one of them. I want to thank my father Venkatesh, who has stood by me all these years and my family, well wishers, friends and media."

Director Sudha Kongara's Soorarai Pottru has won the awards for the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Background Score. GV Prakash had earlier penned a heartfelt letter in which he stated that he waited really long for the award.
