The Indian Panorama 2023 has announced the 54th annual International Film Festival of India (IFFI), revealing its selection of 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films. These movies will be presented at the 54th edition of IFFI, which is scheduled to take place from November 20-28, in Goa. The opening feature film for Indian Panorama 2023, according to the Feature Film Jury’s selection, is Malayalam film Aattam, directed by Anand Ekarshi.
Aattam’s plot, cast and crew
The plot of Aattam revolves around a young woman, who has two professions. She is an architect as well as an actress. The narrative focuses on her dual existence, with two distinct characters. Likewise, all the other characters in the movie also lead a dual life.
The film features Vinay Forrt, Zarin Shihab, Kalabhavan Shajohn and Nandini Gopalakrishnan in pivotal roles. Director Anand has also written the script of Aattam. The movie is produced by Ajith Joy.
Spotlight on films that excel in cinematography, themes and aesthetics
Organised by the National Film Development Corporation, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Indian Panorama 2023 aims to highlight feature and short films that excel in cinematography, themes and aesthetics, while adhering to specific regulations. The Indian Panorama nominees are selected by 12 jury members for feature films and a total of six jury members for non-feature films, each chaired by prominent members from the Indian film industry. These distinguished panels play a crucial role in choosing films for the Indian Panorama, drawing upon their respective areas of expertise.
25 films have been selected for IFFI 2023
From a list of 408 contemporary Indian feature films, 25 have been chosen to be showcased in the Indian Panorama section at 54th IFFI. Notable selections include Aaraariraaro (Kannada), Aattam (Malayalam), Ardhangini (Bengali), Deep Fridge (Bengali), Dhai Aakhar (Hindi) and Iratta (Malayalam), among others.
In the mainstream cinema section, films like 2018: Everyone Is A Hero (Malayalam), Gulmohar (Hindi), Ponniyin Selvan: II (Tamil), Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai (Hindi) and The Kerala Story (Hindi) have been featured.
Manipuri film to be screened along with Aattam
Out of a selection of 239 recent Indian non-feature films, 20 have been chosen to be part of the Indian Panorama at 54th IFFI. Andro Dreams (Manipuri), directed by Longjam Meena Devi, has been selected as the opening non-feature film for Indian Panorama 2023.
