It's been five years since Trisha and Vijay Sethupathi's timeless romantic tale, 96, hit screens. The romantic drama is helmed by C Prem Kumar, who made his directorial debut with the film. 96 went on to attain a cult status in the annals of Tamil cinema.
Trisha thanks the film's director for Jaanu
As the film completes five years of release today, actress Trisha went down the nostalgic lane and thanked Prem Kumar for offering her the iconic role of Jaanu. Taking to her social media handle, Trisha wrote, "5 glorious years Thank you Prem and to my people who made Jaanu a household name #5YearsOf96 (sic)." Trisha's character Jaanu and the yellow kurti that Trisha wore in the film became so popular that many aped the actress' look. Trisha's chemistry with Vijay Sethupathi, with whom she teamed up for the first time, became a runaway hit. She also went on to bag a number of awards for her role.
Chinmayi goes down memory lane
And it's not only Trisha who is celebrating the fifth anniversary. Actress Chinmayi, who dubbed for Trisha in the film and also sang the hit number Kaathale Kaathale, wrote that 96 will also be a special film for her. Her post on her social media handle read, "It is 5 years of this beautiful film in which I am and was grateful to sing all of the songs; which turned out to be some of the best in my career and got to dub for Trisha / Samantha. Kaathale Kaathale to Iravingu Theevai…96 will be special forever (sic)."

The romantic drama revolves around the reunion of former students of the 1996 batch. How the reunion becomes an opportunity to rekindle the love from the past and resolve the misunderstanding between two former lovers, forms the crux of the story. The star cast includes Aadhitya Bhaskar, Gouri Kishan, Devadarshini, Bagavathi Perumal, Rajkumar, Aadukalam Murugadoss, Varsha Bollamma to name a few.
