Sushmita Sen starrer Aarya Nawazuddin Siddiqui for Serious Men and Vir Das for his Netflix comedy special Vir Das: For India were also nominated.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui lost out to Scottish actor David Tennant in the Best Performance by an Actor category at the 49th International Emmy Awards, which took place at Casa Cipriani in New York City late Monday night.
The Israeli spy thriller series Tehran which won the International Emmy for Drama Series, beat Ram Madhvani's Aarya. In addition, Vir Das's comedic take on Indian history, Vir Das: For India, paved the path for yet another Netflix acquisition, Call My Agent: Season 4, which won the International Emmy for Comedy.
Tennant, who rose to fame as The Doctor in the British TV series Doctor Who was recognized for his role in the three-part crime thriller Des, which follows Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen, who was apprehended in 1983 after human remains were discovered in a drain near his London home.
The film Tehran directed by Moshe Zander, follows a Mossad operative on her first mission in Tehran, which also happens to be her birthplace.
Call My Agent! the French comic series that takes viewers behind the scenes of the world of celebrity, had its Indian adaptation, Call My Agent: Bollywood, premiere not long ago.
