A couple of weeks ago, director Shankar surprised fans of Rajinikanth by posting a picture of them posing together for a photo on social media on the occasion of the duo's blockbuster movie Sivaji celebrating 15th anniversary. Now, filmmaker Suresh Krissna has done the same as his film with Rajinikanth, the iconic super hit Annamalai, has turned 30 today.

This came as the icing on the cake for fans of the Superstar who have been celebrating the occasion on social media by posting photos, video clips and box office numbers of the movie.

They are now looking forward to seeing if Rajinikanth will take to social media to post something on the film. Though the star has had many blockbusters in the last thirty years, Annamalai (streaming on YouTube) still remains to be the favourite of many of his hardcore fans. This was the first movie which featured the iconic title card "Superstar Rajinikanth" accompanied by the pulsating music.

The introduction song of the star, Vanthenda Paalkaran, his chemistry with co-actors, dual looks, ever popular punch dialogues, music by Deva and engaging screenplay are a few aspects of the project which made it a blockbuster in 1992.

Annamalai marked the first collaboration of Rajini and Suresh; the duo then went on to work in three more films - Veera, Baasha and Baba - among which Baasha became the mother of all commercial potboilers in Tamil cinema. Their last outing, Baba, however, failed at the box office, as it couldn't meet the gargantuan expectations riding on it ever since its announcement.

Rajinikanth fans have now pinned high hopes on Nelson Dilipkumar's Jailer which is expected to go on floors soon. The movie produced by Sun Pictures is said to be hitting the screens as a summer release in 2023.
